Depression
Depression is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act. That’s the first definition that pops up when you search for the definition of depression. It not only affects you, but it also affects your loved ones. You’re constantly on auto pilot, watching your life play out in front of you. You are the director of the movie, your life, but you have no control over what happens. The days blend together like a wash cycle, round and round and round. A veil between you and the world, between you and your life. No one talks about how simple day to day tasks turn into the impossible. You could be at a party, surrounded by hundreds of people, and yet you still feel like you’re the only person in the room. Waking up for the day, already exhausted. Leaving you dragging yourself through the day on low power mode. Life feels like a constant flatline. The highs don’t excite you, and the lows take a toll on you. You pick up the habit of keeping to yourself, you can only trust and lean on yourself. Constantly feeling like a burden, but you’ll always need help from others. It’s called being human. Looking at yourself, you’re familiar, but you’re a stranger. And you know it’s you… but you don’t recognize yourself. You want this stranger gone and for the real you to come back. But where are you? How long have you been gone? When did you even leave? How? Why.
