Hello?

Where am I?

What is this place? 

The darkness consumes me

Hello?

I cannot see my hand in front of me

Standing in crisp cold water 

My footed flesh flinches as I step one foot in front of another

Hello?

Looking up reveals more darkness 

Faded gray shadows whirring around in a circular motion

Slowly circling down until they are now circling me

Hello?

My vision fighting to slow down the blurred shadows

Except they’re not shadows but memories

My memories

Hello?

Is this my mind?

A faint cry comes from the beyond ringing in my ears 

With each step one foot in front of another the air thins 

Hello?

The cry becomes louder

An old tree stands before me 

Dead roots and vines wrapping the trunk 

Hello?

A transparent body entangled with the roots and vines 

A pair of lifeless eyes connect to mine

They’re my eyes. 

Hello?

The lifeless body is mine

This mysterious space is the inside of my mind 

And the transparent body is the dark soul of who I once was
